Peter King from the Windaroo Lakes (QLD) Golf Club has won the 2012 Victorian Senior Amateur Championship at Rosebud Country Club following a sudden death playoff.
King and Rick Oliver (Young Golf Club, NSW) finished tied on 225 after 54 holes, both shooting a four-over par final round 75. In the playoff, King and Oliver both hit the 348m - par 4 – 18th hole in regulation, but with Oliver three putting for bogey it was an easy two putt for King to be crowned the 2012 Champion.
King started the day four shots behind the overnight leader, Kevin Skehan who struggled on the final day with 89 to finish tied 13th. King returned rounds of 76-74-75 for a three round total of 12-over-par. Graham Bowen (Mandurah CC, WA) narrowly missed out on the playoff with King and Oliver, finishing on 226 after an excellent level par-71 on the final day. Past winner, Michael Jackson (Yarra Yarra GC, Vic) was two shots adrift on a total of 227. Defending champion Stefan Albinski (Mona Vale GC, NSW) finished tied 7th, a further five shots back from King and Oliver.
The shot of the day belonged to Eastern’s Andrew Hansen who had a hole-in-one on the 133 metre - par 3 - fourth hole. Using a nine iron, Hansen struck the perfect shot that landed just short of the hole and calmly rolled into the hole to achieve his fourth hole in one.
